While it is known John Cena is set to return to WWE on the Fourth of July edition of SmackDown, is expected to be a free agent according to PWInsider. They note that there’s “currently a creative pitch” to have Cena appear on both brands as a free agent.
What this means is that Cena (who has been in more of a part-time role as of late) could be be competing on both Raw and SmackDown. It’s a wise decision as ratings for both shows have not been kind lately, so it makes sense to get the most out of Cena when he is available. He doesn’t stick around long enough to make an impact on a single show exclusively, so again, it’s simply logical to transition into this position.
As of right now, Cena’s returning feud is expected to be with Jinder Mahal over the WWE Championship. (Sportskeeda)
