Owens, then the NXT Champion, made his mark at WWE Elimination Chamber by defeating then-United States Champion Cena in a Champion vs. Champion Match that was named one of’s favorite matches of 2015. Cena evened the score in the second contest at WWE Money in the Bank and ended up taking the rubber match at WWE Battleground, in which The Cenation Leader’s United States Championship was at stake.

Cena and Owens join an event that has already includes The Undertaker battling Triple H for the very last time. This will be Cena’s first televised match since the Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia on April 27 when he beat Triple H in the opening match. Cena could return to television before this, but if he doesn’t then this is the first time we’ll see Cena in a ring in about five months.

Cena’s next match in a WWE ring will be on September 1 at a live event in Shanghai, China. That will not be televised. You can watch the video above for a promo from Cena.

TJR Thoughts: I think that’s a good choice for a Cena match in Australia. Cena and Owens have had plenty of great matches together. It would be nice if Cena returned to TV before Super Show-Down to try to promote the show a little bit, but it’s not known if he will. Cena has been in China filming a movie with Jackie Chan, so he’s had other non-WWE things keeping him busy.
