WWE: Matt Hardy Wrestles at Final Advertised Live Event, Posts Video Saying “It’s Time To Go Home”

The in-ring career of Matt Hardy may be over officially after last night’s WWE live event in Corpus Christi, Texas. The 43-year-old Hardy (he turns 44 next week) posted on Twitter and Youtube with a message saying that due to injuries, this very well could have been the last match of his career.

You may recall that last month we wrote about how Hardy was dealing with a painful injury due to his lower back and pelvis fusing together. Hardy said that moves like leg drops probably didn’t help with that. Since then, Hardy has been learning what it’s like to be a producer in WWE, so that may be his future role in the company although there’s no word yet on if he will do that full time. Perhaps he’ll want to take a break from the road before he does that.

Hardy noted that he fulfilled his final advertised appearance by wrestling at the Corpus Christi, Texas live event and wanted fans to support his tag team partner Bray Wyatt.

Hardy wrote the following message:

“It’s time for me to go home. To be a father and a husband. I did so much more than I ever imagined I would do in this industry. Thanks for making this incredible journey with me, ladies and gentlemen. I love you all.”

You can watch the video here where Matt said this was most likely the last time you’ll see him in a ring for a match, but he did add the “never say never” line that most people in wrestling use:

Hardy is married to former wrestler Reby Sky aka Queen Rebecca and father to two young sons named “King” Maxel and “Lord” Wolfgang.

Analysis: It is sad that he has to go out this way due to injury, but Matt has had a 25 year career with a lot of success in WWE and in other companies. He’s a guy that is no doubt a WWE Hall of Famer and he has a lot to be proud of. I highly recommend the Hardy’s WWE 24 special on WWE Network if you don’t know the whole story. As for his future, he’s got a lot to be thankful for with a lovely wife and two sons to spend time with at home. I wish him the best with whatever is next.
