US Title Match Added to WWE SummerSlam, Updated Lineup

It was announced on Friday that Shinsuke Nakamura will be defending the United States Championship against the former champion, Jeff Hardy, at SummerSlam on August 19. The match was set up because Randy Orton attacked Jeff Hardy when Hardy nearly got the win in his rematch with Nakamura on Smackdown on July 17. Hardy won that match by disqualification, so that means he gets another title shot at SummerSlam.

The question is, where does Randy Orton fit in? I don’t know if WWE would want to make this a triple threat since the Smackdown Women’s Title is already a triple threat and if you do more than one on the same show it gets too repetitive. However, Orton has had issues with Hardy, so it might happen.

Here’s the lineup as of this writing.

Universal Championship: Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns

WWE Championship: AJ Styles (c) vs. Samoa Joe

Raw Women’s Championship: Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Ronda Rousey

For the Money in the Bank Contract: Braun Strowman vs. Kevin Owens

Intercontinental Championship: Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Seth Rollins

United States Championship: Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs. Jeff Hardy

Smackdown Women’s Championship: Carmella (c) vs. Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair

Cruiserweight Championship: Cedric Alexander (c) vs. Drew Gulak – I expect this to be a Kickoff Show match.

Two other matches will be Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz and The Bludgeon Brothers will defend the Smackdown Tag Team Titles against The New Day or The Bar. I expect that to be The New Day. There will likely be a Raw Tag Team Title match too.

SummerSlam take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Sunday, Aug. 19, at 7 ET/4 PT, streaming live on WWE Network.
