Roman Reigns

The most recent episode of SmackDown from Madison Square Garden has become the highest-grossing gate in the show’s history.

After the show, it was reported by Ariel Helwani, that the gate had grossed more than not any other SmackDown in New York, but any of other SmackDown since the show’s inception in 1999.

The special Super SmackDown show as the first time that WWE had returned to their spiritual home of Madison Square Garden in nearly two years. Before September 10th, the last WWE event to take place in the arena was the company’s annual post-Christmas house show in December 2019.

Super SmackDown saw the return of Brock Lesnar as he arrived to cause chaos within The Bloodline. He attempted to poke holes in the relationship between Paul Heyman and Roman Reigns before also attempting to hit an F5 on Reigns’ Special Counsel. However, Reigns and The Usos saved Heyman, but not before the Tag Team Champions were taken to Suplex City.

During the wild opening segment Lesnar also made his first clear challenge to Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

In the show’s main event, The Street Profits challenged The Usos for their Tag Team Titles.

With The Usos reeling, Reigns arrived at ringside, initially just keeping a watching brief. The Usos and The Street Profits threw everything at each other with numerous near falls for both teams. However, after Ford hit a splash from the top rope, he looked to have the titles won but Reigns rushed the ring and choked him out with the guillotine.

With Reigns standing tall, he accepted the challenge for a match with Lesnar. Saying that he was coming for The Beast when he’s smashed Finn Balor at Extreme Rules.

However, there was one more surprise in store as Finn Balor arrived to stare down the champion. But this wasn’t The Prince, this was The Demon.

It was the first time that Balor had appeared as The Demon in two years.

Elsewhere on the show, Seth Rollins defeated Edge in a huge rematch from SummerSlam which saw the Rated R Superstar leave the arena on a stretcher.
