Kane Comments on WWE Return and Potential Conflict While Running for Mayor of Knox County (Election is August 2)

Kane is back on WWE television after returning two weeks ago to help Daniel Bryan from a two on one attack from the Bludgeon Brothers on Smackdown. The return of Kane meant that the Team Hell No duo was reunited. In addition to the team being back, they also get a shot at the Smackdown Tag Team Titles at Extreme Rules on July 15.

If Team Hell No wins, does that mean Kane is going to wrestle for several more months? That could be an issue because Kane, using his real name of Glenn Jacobs, is the favorite to become the mayor of Knox County, Tennessee when they have their election on August 2nd. Jacobs is running for the Republican party and is heavily favored to win because the Republicans have dominated Knox County’s mayoral race for decades.

Kane spoke to about what will happen should he be elected mayor.

“After I am elected mayor, I’ll be mayor. (Though) I may still do a few special things (with WWE). I’ve done it for 23 years now and have quite a history, it’ll always be part of my life. I think the question is, if I am taking it seriously, and of course I am. I wouldn’t (be running) if not.

“I’m sure some people will say that (I’m not focused) and some others will say that’s the coolest thing ever. Again, you can’t make everyone happy. You just do what you can and that’s it….you’re always going to catch criticism no matter what you do.”

Linda Haney, who is the Democratic nominee in Knox County, is critical of Jacobs being a part of WWE while the election is so close.

“I was really stunned to find out he was still pursuing it. I thought it was in the past. I thought in this crucial time he’d want to be here and be with the people.”

“Being an entertainer doesn’t make you a political figure. It may get you some votes, but I believe people want someone with common sense and who is (ready to lead).”

TJR Thoughts: It will be interesting to see how things turn out for Jacobs at Extreme Rules. If he and Bryan do win the Smackdown Tag Team Titles that could mean he is willing to wrestle while running for mayor and maybe even while he is mayor. This could also be seen as a farewell for the Kane character, but like he said in the quotes above, he could still appear once in a while.

Jacobs is 51 years old, which makes him one of the oldest guys still competing in a WWE ring. If he does wrestle his last match this year, it wouldn’t be a surprise due to his age and his commitments as the potential new mayor of Knox County. Good luck to him in the election.
