Charlotte Flair has never been someone to back down from a challenge, and the RAW Women’s Champion says that she welcomes competition, wherever it may come from.
Appearing on a special live edition of Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette ahead of SummerSlam, Flair discussed competition between wrestling companies. After reflecting on Ric Flair’s appearance at Triplemania alongside Andrade, Paquette said that it was currently a great time in wrestling with everyone rooting for each other to succeed.
In response, Flair’s message was simple. Competition breeds competition and the better the competition does, the better everyone does.
“Competition breeds competition. If there’s no one out there to go up against, it’s kinda like, ‘What are we fighting for?’ No, you want to fight to be number one. So to me, the better they do, the better we do. The better we do, the better they do. That’s what it is. That’s how it is in the ring. No one should want anybody to fail, nobody should talk down… I mean every company is different but to me I’m still gonna say ‘we are the best women’s division and there’s only one queen in wrestling.’ So I challenge anybody else in the world, if you think you’re better, try me.”
At SummerSlam, Charlotte Flair regained her RAW Women’s Championship in a Triple Threat Match by forcing Nikki A.S.H to tap out. Nikki had beaten Flair for the championship the night after Money In The Bank. Flair is now a 12-time Women’s Champion.
The match was as chaotic as you would expect with all three women laying it all on the line. Flair and Rhea Ripley attempted to use their power advantage early on, but were thwarted by a flying cross-body from the champion.
As the match raced towards a conclusion, Flair trapped Ripley in a Figure Eight but it was broken up by a flying Nikki A.S.H. That left the door open for Nikki, but hope was quickly extinguished after she initially evaded a Riptide from Ripley. The Aussie fell to the outside leaving Flair alone with the champion.
After evading a cross-body, Flair locked in the Figure Eight to force Nikki to submit. Based on what happened on Raw this past Monday, it appears that Alexa Bliss will be Flair’s next challenger.
